The Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative (CHVI) Research and Development Alliance Coordinating Office (ACO) was established at the International Centre for Infectious Diseases (ICID) in Winnipeg in November 2011 as part of the Renewed CHVI Vaccine Initiative. The CHVI is a partnership between the Government of Canada and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that aims to accelerate the development of a safe, effective, affordable and globally accessible HIV vaccine.
The ACO is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. The ACO is applying its expertise to identify gaps in the HIV vaccine field; facilitate the development of innovative projects; and work with partners to help support the next generation of HIV vaccine researchers. Specifically, the ACO:
- Fosters innovative HIV vaccine research and development opportunities across Canada;
- Supports the coordination of funding and resources among Canada’s diverse agencies; and
- Promotes international collaboration and synergy among Alliance members.
